AlignMend PT is Going to Cash-Based Model of Care in January 2023

Uncategorized Oct 12, 2022

Dear AlignMend Clients,

The past three years have been filled with love, laugher, learning, changes, growth, continuing education, and some unprecedented circumstances.  I am very fortunate to work with all of you, providing physical therapy services and overall wellness both in person and online. I am passionate about people, movement, system integration and overall wellness.  As you know, I am very committed to my education and to further delivery of high-quality care to meet your goals and expectations.

Starting January 1, 2023, AlignMend Physical Therapy will convert to cash-based services only. This means starting January 1, 2023, I can no longer accept insurance and will be considered an out-of-network provider.

I am sure a lot of you are wondering why I would make this change.  I am also sure that a lot of you are wondering how you will continue PT when it’s an out-of-pocket expense.   I didn't make this decision lightly, that is for sure, but it has been an underlying goal since I started my practice.  The leap is scary to me as well. But insurance companies make it very difficult for a sole proprietor like me to operate successfully within their requirements.

These are some of the reasons I decided to officially make this change:

  • My practice does not fit into the “typical medical model”.  I cannot document one specific diagnosis and only treat that area. My practice is a full body education model and multi systematic approach of the entire person: emotionally, physically, and holistically.
  • Higher levels of care with this multi-system approach have required hours of conversation with insurance providers to justify the treatment you are receiving and that should be covered under your plan.
  • I supply redundant notes justifying medical necessity to continue care despite the obvious reasons provided by you, the client.
  • I want to be able to continue to elevate my practice to provide exceptional care that each of you deserve.
  • I want all of you to feel this elevated level of care, evaluation, understanding, and my desire to learn and educate myself. I want you to understand the human body/mind connection, make you feel safe, and be healthy.
  • Insurance companies protect their own interests.  I understand that insurance is a necessity, please understand I’m not disputing that.  What I am saying is insurance is not motivated to supply you with the care or coverage that you pay to receive.
  • As a medical provider, it is very difficult — professionally and ethically—to have an administrator with no medical education dictating the amount of care and time I can provide you.

That’s why I can no longer - professionally or ethically - work within this system

For NEW CLIENTS treatments will be included in package options of 3, 6, 9 and 12 visits. I am looking for clients that are committed to their wellness and one visit is not enough to determine success.  Once a package has been completed there will be the option for single visit appointments on an individual basis.

The care that I provide takes commitment and is a process. By going to a cash-based model of care, I will no longer be distracted by insurance requirement and limited treatment times so that I can dedicate each minute of care to focus on your individual health and fitness goals.

 Please note:

  • I will email you a superbill following each physical therapy session that you can independently submit to your insurance to receive out of network reimbursement.
  • You may use your HSA card to pay for physical therapy services and submit the receipt for reimbursement. I will offer payment plans when requested as I want you to feel secure in this transition with options that work for you.
  • I am looking at a new documentation system where I will possibly be able to submit the insurance superbill for you while you just sit at home and wait for the check to arrive.  Yay!! One less step I can offer to ensure you feel you are cared for at all levels.

For those of you who do need to continue working through your insurance-based options, please know that I will work with you over the next 3 months to help you find or recommend a local practitioner and make your transition as smooth as possible.

Thank you for allowing me to serve your health, mind, and body needs. I love my job and I love helping people, so I appreciate all of you for understanding how exciting this next step is for me and my future growth is going to benefit everyone.

With gratitude and in health
